African elephants at waterhole
Tsavo West National Park, Kenya
"Elephants are a key species to this arid ecosystem and through their movements have a profound influence on the shape and character of the vegetation which in turn affects all other creatures. By knocking over trees and striping branches they create a mosaic of open areas that are quickly colonised by grasses which attract herds of grazers. Part of the Ngulia range can be seen in the background."
