"Hippos have a very hierarchical society in which individuals must advertise their status and condition. These two were part of a group of around 10 hippos which were very physical and vocal particularly when they returned to water after a night's solitary grazing. These vocalisations are best described as a nasal wheeze followed by a series of guttural honks."
